• There are many different units of pressure used
in chemistry. You must be able to use all of them
and convert between them. Here they are:
– atmospheres (symbol = atm)
– millimeters of mercury (symbol = mm Hg) now called torrs
– kilopascals (symbol = kPa)
• Conversions:
1 atm = 760.0 mm Hg = 760.0 torr = 101.33 kPa
Standard Temperature: 0°C/ 273K
Standard Pressure: 1 atm/760 mmHg/760 Torr
‘STP’ means Standard
Temperature and Pressure.
At STP, one mole of gas
occupies 22.4 L.
