Let’s consider a bus approach
Increasingly complex
ad-hoc connections


C = n(n-1) / 2
Makes Difficult:







Overall System Administration
Diagnose faults
Disaster Recovery
Reliability, Scalability
Auditing & Tracking
Structured, flexible. Scalable
interoperability approach



Resolves the point to point spaghetti
Favours Configuration over Programming
Single point of:




configuration,
administration,
monitoring,
& diagnostics
Stovepipe Systems
Not reliable or resilient

New ways of doing business
The way we need to work…
Short delivery cycles (6-9 months)
Smaller sets of requirements
Engage contractors much earlier
Focus on COTS integration & testing
Lightweight deployment processes
Integrated projects
More teamwork across Agencies and nations
Focus on delivering real value to the warfighter

And in closing …
… a little expectation management
 This is an extremely complex set of tasks
 Accordingly, we plan to move cautiously…
 …this is why we are using the incremental approach
 We will not “solve world hunger” with these projects
 Achieving true NNEC capability for operations will take much more work
 Other project MUST carry their share of the load
 Tight budgets = smaller capability delivery
 There are many risks associated with these efforts
 Projects with many interdependencies have a higher probability of failure
 Your input and support are essential for success
 From the beginning, we will need your support and guidance!
