Technical highlights of Gamma 1.6 GDI engine
Aluminum block and ladder frame
Offset crankshaft
Timing chain driving system
High-pressure casted aluminum block and
ladder frame ensure enhanced rigidity of
the engine, and the multiple ribs and
spherical structures of the area attached to
the transmission give extra rigidity and
reduced noise.
The centre of crank-shaft is offset from the
centre of cylinder block's bore to reduce
friction-loss at explosion-strokes. Expedited
combustion by reduced speed of
piston leads to optimization of fuel economy.
Highly durable roller-type timing chain ensures
maintenance-free operation and the ratchet
embedded hydraulic auto-tensioner is applied
to prevent chain-slippage and noise.

Top shape
of GDI piston
• Piston shape facilitates fuel to be injected
directly into the cylinder.
• Promotes fuel efficiency by increasing the
compression ratio. ( MPI 10.5 → GDI 11.0 )
Exhaust CVVT Unit
Intake C-VVT Unit
Enhanced performance and fuel-efficiency
by optimized rotation of the crank-shaft.
Newly designed internal coolant flow
improves fuel efficiency and reduces
temperature of the block’s upper area
surfaces.

Technical highlights of NU 2.0 GDI / MPI engine
Cylinder block and bed plate
Offset crank shaft
Plastic variable intake system
the high-pressure casted aluminium
cylinder block and the bed plate improve
dynamic stiffness and NVH of the lower
structure of cylinder block. Weight is
reduced by about 30% and structural
rigidity is improved by about 30%.
Cylinder bores and crankshaft center are
offset for less friction loss between the
piston
and cylinder bore, resulting in fuel economy
improvement of about 1%.
Variable intake manifold promotes optimal
performance. Lightweight plastic material
reduces weight by 30%. Engine output is
increased by 4% compared with fixed
specification (TIS).

Roller swing arm and mechanical
lash adjuster

improvement
Intake camshaft
of approximately 1%.
Variable intake valve timing
Promotes optimal variation of intake /
exhaust valve timing for better engine
performance, fuel economy improvement of
1-2%, and exhaust gas reduction of about
30%.
GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) system
* 2.0 GDI Engine only.
Exhaust camshaft
Roller swing arm
Mechanical
lash adjuster
GDI system injects high-pressure fuel
into
combustion chamber directly to increase
air-charging efficiency by reducing
temperature of combustion chamber.
thereby enhancing the engine
performance.

Structure
Provides enhanced stiffness and reduces NVH
by sustaining the moving parts firmly as well as
facilitating lubrication and cooling system of
the main engine parts.
The Simplified composition of the system
improves the NVH and prevents belt slip.
It also helps the performance of the
auxiliary systems.
Hydraulic Lash Adjusters (HLA)
Improves durability and fuel economy
through the high rigidity of the
valve system and the lightweight
composition.
Timing chain system offers a better
durability and less maintenance,
while the hydraulic auto-tensioner
ensures optimized chain behavior.
Swirl Control Valves
Swirl control valves ensure optimal
control of the swirl ratio and flowcoefficient of the air.
