THE GIVING TREE
•“The Giving Tree” is written by
SHEL SILVERSTEIN. This story is
about the relationship
between a boy and a tree. The
tree and the boy were great
friends. The tree gave the boy
everything that he needed in
his life.
• When the boy was very small, he
used to visit the tree every day.
The tree invited him to climb on it
and play with its branches. When
he was hungry, the tree gave him
apples to eat. When he got tired ,
he used to sleep in the shade of
the tree.

OH! WHAT A DELICIOUS
APPLE!
• But when the boy grew up, he went away
from the tree. The tree was often alone.
After some years when the boy returned,
the tree was very happy and invited him
to play with it. But the boy said he had
no time to play, but needed some money.
The tree suggested him to pluck the
apples and sell them in the market. The
did it and got enough money. Again he
went away, and did not return for a long
time.

• After a long time he came back. The
tree was so happy and whispered,
“come and play”. But now the boy
was a grown up man. He said “I need
a boat to go on a business trip”. The
tree said “cut down my trunk and
make a boat”. The man cut down the
trunk, made a boat and sailed away.
The tree was happy.

• The boy returned after a long time.
Now he has grown up into an old
man. The tree was very happy to see
him. The tree said it had nothing to
offer him more. The old man said that
he wanted nothing. Only he wanted
to sit and rest. The tree said that you
can use my stump to sit and rest. The
old man did and the tree was still
happy.
AT LAST ONLY THE STUMP LEFT……
WHAT A GENEROSITY !
