ERWC 2013 - Haiku Learning

Report
A Few Facts about the Expository
Reading and Writing Curriculum:
ERWC
• More than 3000 teachers have been introduced to the
ERWC; the course has been adopted by more than 200 high
schools across the state
• Thousands of teachers use this curriculum—even if the full
course has not been adopted
• ERWC was developed due to the findings of the EAP by a
statewide task force including teachers, CSU faculty, and
administrators.
• The ERWC course is approved by the CSU and UC systems
as a “b” (ELA) course.
• A bottom-up, grass roots process has been responsible for
the success of the ERWC

We engage students with high-interest
texts, and, by doing so, motivate them to
be involved in their learning.
We enhance long-term learning beyond the
classroom and give students the tools and
strategies necessary to navigate through
varied and complex texts.
We give students experiences with texts
that demand that they think, read, and
write critically.
