 The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education
and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate
service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with
a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have
received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11
GI Bill.
 Your full tuition & fees directly to the school for all public school
in-state students
 A monthly housing allowance (MHA) based on the Basic
Allowance for Housing for an E-5 with dependents at the location
of the school.
 An annual books & supplies stipend of $1,000 paid
proportionately based on enrollment.
 The Post-9/11 GI Bill also offers some service members the
opportunity to transfer their GI Bill to dependents
The Post 9/11 GI Bill
Transfer GI Bill to dependents
 Any member of the Armed Forces (active duty or
Selected Reserve, officer or enlisted) on or after
August 1, 2009, who is eligible for the Post-9/11
GI Bill, and:
 Has at least 6 years of service in the Armed Forces
(active duty and/or Selected Reserve) on the date of
approval and agrees to serve 4 additional years in the
Armed Forces from the date of election.
 Has at least 10 years of service in the Armed Forces
(active duty and/or Selected Reserve) on the date of
approval, is precluded by either standard policy
(Service or DoD) or statute from committing to 4
additional years, and agrees to serve for the maximum
amount of time allowed by such policy or statute.
How to apply for TEB
 First you must go to the DOD transferability
application website to determine if your
dependents are eligible to receive the transferred
benefits.

You are about to begin filling in your application. You should have any information handy that we
recommend for the application you are going to complete. If you have not read Instructions for Filling Out
Applications, please read the information under the FAQs.
Help Functions.
On the left side of the screen there is a button. It will say, “Show Help” or “Show FAQ”.
When the “Show FAQ” is displayed, the left column will have Frequently Asked Questions
regarding the page you are viewing and will help you understand what information we need.
When the “Show Help” is displayed, the column will display specific information for the block
the cursor is in, and tell you exactly what should be entered.
Maneuvering in the form:
There are three links at the top of the page to jump to the major parts of VONAPP:
Start (initial pages and Privacy Act),
Interview (begin the questions in the form), and
Final Steps (check the form/send to VA/print).
At the bottom of most screens, in addition to the Back and Continue, you will see two
links:
Print (prints entire form with your information) and
Validate (checks the whole form for errors/missing data).
 All military students are require to
complete/submit the Intent Form to be
certified for each semester
 All Chapter 33 veterans (Post 9/11 GI Bill)
must register for classes in order to be
certified in any semester
 Voc Rehabs are certified by Josie upon
receipt of Voc. Rehab. Authorization from
Voc. Rehab. Counselors.

What is Academic Advising? Rutgers University
has a great definition of advising that I like to
use:
“Academic Advising is an opportunity to exchange
information designed to help students reach their
educational and career goals. Advising is a shared
responsibility between an advisor and the student.
Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the student to make
decisions about his/her life goals by creating a plan to
reach those goals.”
“Academic advisors can assist in this process by helping the
student understand options, select appropriate courses,
determine resources and, when necessary identify
alternatives.” – Rutgers University
• Among many things, you can expect an Academic
Advisor to provide information regarding academic
planning, assist with curriculum interpretation, and
answer transfer questions, including issues regarding
MACRAO and the Integrative Studies Requirement at
MSU. An Academic Advisor will also be able to discuss
the components of the Selective Admissions process
with students.

• Talk about your interests, goals, major and career path
as well as courses required to obtain this.
• Develop an EDP – Educational Development Plan that
will help you plot out what courses you will need to take
each semester to reach your academic goal.

of study
• Your EDP will list which courses you will take each
semester to obtain your degree and/or transfer
based on your declared major. It may also list
other to do items or notes pertaining to your
academic career.
