Driver Visor Kit
Bridging the
Communications Gap
when stopped by Police
Canadian Hard of Hearing Association
BC Chapter offers a Driver Visor Kit which
we hope will make your communications
with a Police Officer less stressful for the
Deaf or Hard of Hearing person. We also
hope it will serve to educate the Police staff
about the special communication needs of
the hearing loss.
Each driver visor kit contains a brochure explaining what is in your kit:
1.The laminated Visor Card (with 2 bulldog clips to attach to visor) in the Driver
Visor Kit will be an important way of communication between you and the
police officer. There are some specific ways of communication displayed on
this card for the police officer to help understand your hearing loss.

2. An International Hearing Loss
Symbol sticker for placement on the
left hand lower rear window of your car.
3. A Blue Ear Pin that can be worn
while driving and visible just in case
you are stopped by a police officer.
4. Pen and Paper if needed for writing messages.
5. A Communicard to show to police officer or to anyone
to help with your communication needs.
I HAVE A HEARING LOSS.
To make our conversation easier, please:
Face me and do not cover your mouth.
Speak clearly but not too quickly.
Cut out background noise if possible.
Write your message if necessary.
