CHAPTER 6 WRITING
ASSIGNMENT
INFORMATION REQUEST: MEETING
AT CAESARS PALACE, LAS VEGAS
Chapter 6 involved learning about positive messages. For this particular assignment,
we had to send a letter to the manager of Caesars Palace requesting information
about their hotel. The letter had to request information for a four-day combination
conference and vacation spot for my company, Software.com. It specifically had to
request what room rates, and accommodations they could offer for my group of 85
engineers, managers, and marketing staff. The next slide shows includes the letter.

Las Vegas, NV 87551
Dear Ms. Cervantes:
Will you please answer the following questions about providing conference rooms and accommodations for approximately 80 people, from April 20- 24,
2011 or July 10-14, 2011?
Software.com would like to hold our next company-wide meeting in a resort location. Our CEO has asked me to find a conference location for our 85
engineers, product managers, and marketing staff for a four-day combination sales conference/vacation/retreat. He suggested Caesars Palace, as being
one of the most amazing and accommodating casinos.
We would need three conference rooms to accommodate 25 or more for one and a half days. Will Caesars Palace be able to accommodate that?
Can you please give me some information on your room rates, conference facilities and entertainment options for families for those days?
Does Caesars Palace have a group rate for the off-peak season?
One of the nights, our CEO would like to host a banquet for about 125 people. Will there be a conference room big enough to hold that? And, is it
available?
Please answer these few questions and provide any other information that you think may be beneficial. Your response would be greatly appreciated by
November 29, since we will be meeting on December 3rd to go over the details of our conference.
Sincerely,
Annica Garcia

CHAPTER 7 WRITING ASSIGNMENT
REQUEST REFUSAL: YOU WANT ME
TO DO WHAT?
Chapter 7 we learned about writing negative messages. Our assignment for this chapter
was to write an email to two co-workers who requested an illegal copy of Adobe Photoshop
for personal use. As the manager of the Reprographics Department, I had to write the
email refusing the request. You will see the email on the next slide.

Subject: Adobe Photoshop
Hello,
I appreciate your request for a copied version of Photoshop for personal use. Photoshop is a great program offered to Reprographics for
its ability to perform the extensive editing and enhancing that we need to provide excellent service to our customers.
Currently our contract with Adobe only allows us to install the software on one server, and to use it on up to five computers on the
network. Unfortunately, I am unable to give you a copy of Photoshop for your personal use. Photoshop is a very expensive program that
is licensed, not to mention that it is against the law to copy licensed software. Software companies would go out of business if illegal
coping of the software occurred. I would be breaking the law and the contract if I allowed coping of the software for you. I hope you do
understand.
If you would like me to, I could - show you and or other employees how our department uses it. It would be a great learning experience
for the rest of the team. And if we find that it would be helpful for your team to have it, it may be something that we can discuss in
another meeting.
Thanks,
Annica Garcia

CHAPTER 8 WRITING ASSIGNMENT
PERSUASIVE FAVOR/ACTION
REQUEST: FINANCIAL ADVICE FOR
THE YOUNG, FABULOUS, AND BROKE
Chapter 8 was about writing persuasive requests, writing sales and marketing
messages, and writing online messages. For the assignment, our task was to be
the program chair of the Associated Student Organization committee for the
University of Nevada. We had to write a persuasive letter requesting the
attendance of Suze Orman – author of The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous &
Broke. The next slide is the letter that I wrote.

Dear Ms. Orman:
We were honored to see a part of your speech, Career Advice for Young People, on YouTube and found it to be very inspiring for all of us.
More and more college students are graduating with top-of-the-line college degrees but have no sense when it comes to personal finance. They are so
consumed with research papers and spending countless hours in the classrooms that they don’t put aside time to learn the basics of personal finance. They
rack up bad credit and take on bad jobs only to be stuck in debt for 20 or more years.
The Associated Student Organization at the University of Nevada and I would like to invite you to be our keynote speaker on May 26, 2011. We would like
you to come and share your expertise and wisdom on financial planning. And have a chance to speak to our graduates about your book The Money Book
for the Young, Fabulous & Broke. Although we can only offer an honorarium of $1,000, you will be pleased to know that many of our graduates will be in
attendance. Many have already expressed excitement, and eagerness to hear you speak.
Can we put you down to be our keynote speaker on May 26, 2011, at 5 p.m. at the University of Nevada’s college graduation? Please call me at (651)2226897 by January 15, 2011, to discuss details.
Sincerely,
Annica Garcia
