Workshop: Create your own SharePoint 2013
dev./ test VM, Live!
Level: 200
Track: IT-Pro, Developer
Get ready to create your own SharePoint 2013 dev./ test VM from scratch using a single click PowerShell installation script that employs
industry defined best practices to not only install SharePoint but also prepare the server for the installation. In this deep dive session, we will:
1. Review the steps of creating a new Win Server 2012 R2 VM with the goal of installing SQL and SharePoint on it.
2. Walk-through and customize the single click scripted installation package that:
a. Prepares the Windows Server VM created above for the installations
b. Configures a local Active Directory on the VM
c. Installs and prepares SQL server 2012/ 2014 for SharePoint 2013 installation
d. Installs and configures SharePoint 2013 on it
3. As a bonus, based on interest & time permitting, we will also set up a fresh Win Server 2012 R2 VM from scratch. Optionally, a Windows
Server 2012 R2 VM with a 180 day trial license will also be available for download through the speakers blog.
Upfront software and script download information, script samples and steps will be provided on the speakers blog at:
http://gauravmahajan.net/ so you can follow along and create your own ready to click SharePoint installation package.
While for beginners, the session will provide an opportunity to learn how to create their own SharePoint 2013 VMs, for advanced IT Pros, it will
provide an opportunity to learn how to create repetitive single click installation PoSH scripts to automate creation of multiple environments
with ease. While the scripts and demo will revolve around SharePoint 2013, they will work equally well with SharePoint 2010.
Finally, help will be available after the session as well in case you'd like to start your SharePoint installation while at the event and
subsequently walk away with your very own copy of a VM with SharePoint installed and operational on it.

Anatomy of a Mail App
Level: 200
Track: End-User, Developer
Apps for Office introduces a new programming model that is so flexible, you may not believe it unless you see
it with your own eyes. You might say it is dangerously simple to enhance the functionality of Office. Apps for
Office allow you to enhance the user experience for Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project and Word,
most likely using your existing skills.
Starting with a brief discussion surrounding the roadmap for the various types of Office apps, this talk will
focus primarily on Mail apps and how you can use them to provide very valuable enhancements to the
message and appointment reading, and composing, experiences.
You will learn about what if takes to develop a Mail app (a real app, currently under development will be
shown), what the infrastructure looks like to deploy a mail app, what the licensing process looks like and how
easy they are to monetize.
After the discussion, you will likely be beaming with ideas and be rushing home to begin building your very

Office 365: Is Governance Affected and
Where Do We Start?
Level: 100
Track: IT-Pro, Business
As we all know, more and more organizations are starting to question “Do we or do we not implement Office 365?”. However, as these
discussions are taking place; governance is rarely addressed or considered. The main reason is that the majority believe that once they have
implemented governance that they are done; unless there is an update such as a server name change or an employee change (such as a
departure or addition). During the initial planning around governance it is likely that there were discussions around auditing of the governance
document and potential quarterly reviews to ensure that the document is up to date and still fits the business. However, it is common to forget
that after that fact; even though it is documented “within the governance document”.
Governance becomes even more important with Office 365 because it’s all cloud based. This means all of the content, backup, recovery, etc.
are all handled by Microsoft and you have virtually no control over it. In this session we will review the areas of concern and how they can be
addressed within the governance document, the importance of reviewing the document frequently; and ways to make the information
available to your internal SharePoint Community. In addition, we will review the features of Office 365 that will have a major impact on
Exchange, SharePoint, Office Apps and Lync. We will review each of these applications and the areas of importance that should be addressed in
the governance document, as well as why each of them are important.

User profiles are so much more than that and I could talk for hours about all the great things that it can do. Many don't realize it but you can
