Physical Education - Fitness Terminology
Fitness - Good health and physical condition
enabling a person to have the highest quality of
life.
 Speed - the maximal velocity that can be reached
by part or all of the body.
 Agility - the ability to rapidly change the body’s
momentum from one direction to another.
 Strength - the ability of a muscle or muscle group
to exert maximal force.
 Flexibility - (ROM) Range of movement (motion)
in a joint or group of joints.
 Power- the ability, strength, and capacity to do
something.
 Strength Endurance- the ability of your muscles
to repeat submaximal contractions without fatigue
 Plyometrics - exercise involving repeated rapid
stretching(loading) and contracting of muscles
(as by jumping and rebounding) to increase
muscle power - fast, powerful movements
 Sport specific - training that pertains to a specific
sport or activity
Repitition - One complete movement of an
exercise.
Set - Fixed number of repetitions. For
example, 10 repetitions may make up one
set.
 Components of Fitness:
 Aerobic/cardiovascular endurance
 Muscular strength
 Muscular endurance
 Flexibility
 Body composition
