Safe Summer Swim Program
How it got started?
Closing of the Jackson Outdoor Pool in the SE end of Canton that was operated by the City of Canton
Approached Canton Recreation Department and asked to help me with discussions with the City Of Canton
Mayors Office to support the need of swimming lessons to our children of CCS
2008 – I Proposed a Learn to Swim Program to the Mayors Office, this was supported by the Canton Recreation
Department. This program would be totally funded by money that was budgeted for swimming in the city.
City wanted a spray park, but I showed them facts about the number of drowning by the African American
2008- 2009 – 2 more City Pools were closed down, and the need for this program really became very important
2008-2011- I have been running this Safe Summer Program and it has been a big success for the students of CCS
The City of Canton has funded $40,000 for this program over the past 4 years
