S-band BPM in ATF2

What for with this BPM(beam position monitor) ?



To control beam orbit at final focus beam line in ATF2
To do BBA(beam-based alignment) with 1 mm at final focus
beam line in ATF2 (BPM resolution of a few hundreds nm
should be satisfied.)
Requirements for the BPM



Dynamic range ; a few mm
Diameter of beam tube ; 40 mm
Signal decay time ; 35~ 80 ns (where, f= 2878 MHz, QL =
650~1800, longer decay time will is preferred for the
electronics)

Fabrication of S-band BPM
Design and fabrication of S-band BPM for the sextupole magnets and
quadrupole magnets has been performed in Korea (at Kyungpook)

1 cold model of the S-band BPM has been sent to LAPP for an initial try
for the installation, April, 2008.

4 S-band BPMs are sent to KEK to be installed in ATF2 last week.

The installation process will be scheduled next month through the ATF2
people.

• 영국 PPARC가 주관하여 4차까지 진행한 “Funding
Agencies Meeting for LC” 의 한국 측 참여를 위원장 (Ian
Halliday)으로부터 희망한다는 내용
• 기초연구국 기초연구지원과에 참여 권유 및 관련 자료 제출
및 발언할 내용 검토 (손동철)
• 2004년 9월 16~17일 CERN 회의에 참석(기초연구지원과
장, 손동철), 과장 한국측 입장 발표
– LC 사업에 대하여 한국은 적극 참여를 희망
– (회의록, 공식회의록, 미국측 회의록 내용 참조)

정부의 후속 조치
• 2004년 9월 FALC회의 참여 동안 기초연구지원과와 관련 후속 조치 및
추진 방안 협의
– 우선 포항가속기 연구소의 인프라를 이용하는 방안을 검토 요구 (9월 23일)
– 포항가속기연구소의 향후발전계획 가속기 관련 국제협력 부분에 LC에 관한 계획을
언급토록 정부에서 요구 (손동철 작성 제출, 10월 4일)
– 그러나 10월 13일 정부에서 ILC사업 추진 방침을 내부 결정
• 주관 국가 내지 주관 컨소시엄으로서의 참여 방안 제출 요구
• 자료 제출 (손동철 10월 14일, 고인수 수정)
– 10월 16일 정부의 조직개편의 기초연구지원과 업무분장에
• 국제선형가속기 국제공동연구의 추진 명시
• 2005년 기초연구국 기획과제로 국제선형가속기사업 참여 방안 연구 수행

소가 지불하였음. (초기 1/6, SRC종료 이후에는 1/15~20 정도)
현재 새로운 협약 체결을 검토하자는 요청을 받고 있음.  해결해야 할 문제
