AMC 10 AMC 12

The math club will be giving the AMC 10 and
AMC 12 on February 25th. This an advanced
math contest where students have an
opportunity to advance to an international
competition. Students who would like to
participate should bring their $5 contest fee
to Mr. Williams in room 17 on the east wing by
Friday February 13.
NHS

The National Honor Society will meet
February 17th in room 13. The meeting will
start at 7:45 a.m. on that date.
Balfour


The Balfour Representative will be back on
Thursday, February 12th during all lunches to
accept payments and deliver Jr. Class
rings. Please bring your correct balance on
that day. Only cash or money orders will be
accepted. Any student that would like to
place a ring order needs to bring a $50
deposit on the 12th.
Senior Video

All pictures and videos for the Senior video
are due by Friday, February 27.
Miss Y J

The Miss Yellow Jacket Pageant will be held
on Friday, March 27 at the Starkville
Sportsplex. Applications and dress
information will be available soon. Mark your
calendar now. See Ms. Tedder, Ms. Dill, or
Mrs. Kennett for further information.
Glow Rage


The 1st Annual SHS Glow Rage will be held on
Thursday, February 26 from 7-10 p.m. in the
SHS gym. Tickets are $7 (includes a glow
necklace) and are on sale today through
Friday, February 13, at lunch in the SHS
cafeteria.
Glow Rage T-shirts ($10) are also on pre-sale
during this period. The T-shirt will glow in the
dark. Delivery of T-shirts will be Tuesday,
February 24. (Design available for view at
ticket table)
Glow Rage (cont.)

The Glow Rage is open to all Jackets (9-12).
You are encouraged to wear WHITE attire
or other UV reactive clothing. This is an
informal dance - no formal wear,
please. Also, there are super cool glow-inthe-dark make-up, face and body paints,
and hair color, so the SGA challenges all
Jackets to GET YOUR GLOW ON! Go research
glow options, and come have fun at this new
SHS event. If you have questions, see an SGA
member or sponsor.
Musical

"Legally Blonde the Musical" will run February
19 - 22, 2015 in the SHS Theatre.

Tickets will be $7 at the door and show time is
at 7:00 pm Thurs - Sat and at 2:30 pm on
Sunday. We hope you join us for this exciting
new musical!
Carnations


Valentine’s Day is approaching.
The SHS French Club will be selling pink and
red carnations for that someone special.
Carnations are $2.00 each. French Club
members will be selling these during lunch in
the cafeteria. The carnations will be available
for pick up in the cafeteria during lunch on
Friday, February, 13.
ACT

Any students taking the ACT on February 7
need to have their admission ticket printed
before leaving school Friday, February 6.

On the day of the test, students need to bring
the Admission ticket with photo - no tickets will be
printed on test day, a Photo ID (Driver's license or
school ID), Sharpened #2 pencils - there will not be a
pencil sharpener available, and a Calculator - these
are not supplied by the testing center.


Please be sure you check your admission
ticket to see if you test center is at Starkville
High or MSU.

Students should arrive no later than 7:45 to
check in. The doors will be locked promptly
at 8:00 and no one will be admitted to testing
after that time.
Seniors


Your senior fee is $85. It needs to be paid by
April 13. You can pay in installments. Seniors
who do not pay will not be allowed to
participate in prom or beauty revue.
See Mrs. Brand in the front office to make
your payment.
Prom

The prom will be April 25. This year’s theme is
Frozen in Time. The cost to attend prom will
be $30. All prom attendees will get a t-shirt
this year.
Model Security


Model Security will meet every Thursday in
Coach Boykin’s room.
Members should bring a $38 check made out
to SHS or bring $38 cash to this week’s
meeting.

Cheer

There will be a cheer interest meeting on
Monday, Feb. 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the SHS
library for students in grades 9-11 and their
parents/guardians. Attendance at this
meeting is mandatory for students and
parents/guardians.
This week in sports:

The basketball teams play at home tonight
(2/6) against Madison Central.
Golf

Boys and girls interested in trying out for the
golf team this year should drop by Coach
Hobart’s room this week to schedule a tryout
and pick up information. Tryouts are
scheduled for Monday, February 9 at MSU.
Be there by 4:00. You must have your own
equipment.

SUMMER YOUTH INSTITUTE


SUMMER YOUTH INSTITUTE is a 9-day
experiential learning opportunity for current
high school freshmen and sophomores
committed to making a difference in their
communities. This FREE program focuses on
civic engagement, leadership training, and
relationship building. It is held at the
University of Mississippi.

Get 2 College will be hosting a FAFSA Day at







Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program….Goal is
to train new secondary English and mathematics
teachers for Mississippi. You will commit to teach in
MS for at least 5 years.







The College of Nursing at “The W” will host high school
juniors and seniors who are interested in learning more
about a career in nursing.
There will be hands on learning experience.

TO PLAY A SPORT


Any student wishing to tryout or participate
in a sport must have a current physical,
parent permission form, media consent
release, and concussion form on file in the
Athletic Department or have one ready to
turn in on the day of tryouts.
Also, any student who plays a sport must take
the STAR Sportsmanship course online to be
eligible. If you haven’t taken the test, get
instructions from your coach and do so
immediately.




FCA invites all students to the theatre on
Thursday morning at 7:45.
FCA leadership groups are Wednesday
mornings at 7:45. The women’s leadership
group is in Mrs. Young’s class and the men’s
leadership group is in Mr. Williams’ class.
If you plan on going to either club, you must
get a laminated hall pass from Mrs.
