IBM:4U rack server,6
nodes per rack is classic
configuration for IBM
Huawei:1.5U blades,can
support 12 nodes per rack.
IBM HA – Manual operation needed
4. (on any active node) Transfer server license
Applies to GPFS 3.5.0-7 and later. Step 5 requires a node with a valid server license in the cluster.
With GPFS 3.5.0-7 a new "FPO license" was introduced which is incompatible to the server roles
"quorum node" and "configuration server". If you want to put these roles on a active server with
a FPO license, you need to move the "server license" to this node. Check the licenses with the
command
1 # mmlslicense –L

Q&A-1
1. How to upgrade from 1T to 2T, 4T or 6T smoothly?
 The time window to upgrade is very short, so smoothly is not the most important thing.



The release of Intel CPU’s frequency is once a year. (see Q&A-4)
SAP HANA can not make two different generations of CPU running on the same system
Customer just have one year window to upgrade hardware which also faces old and new CPU architecture
choices.(Performance have 50%~100% improved from new version to old version) (see Q&A-5)
 There are no vendor have the perfect program of smoothly upgrade.
1.
Same computing/storage/fans/power models with different chassis. (IBM x6)



2.
Same computing/storage/fans/power models with same chassis (Fujitsu, Huawei RH8100)



3.
High initial cost.(see Q&A-2)
Replace chassis.(see Q&A-2)
New CPU platform to choose.(see Q&A-5)
High initial cost (higher than program 1) .(see Q&A-2)
Lower CPU performance(30% lower).( see Q&A-3)
New CPU platform to choose.(see Q&A-5)
Different architecture for 4-socket and 8-socket (HP, Huawei RH5885H V3)


Incompatible with 4 socket and 8 socket.
Best initial cost
44
Q&A-2
1. How to upgrade of IBM or Fujitsu?
4T~6T
128G~2T
upgrade
IBM:
3950 X6
3850 X6



High initial cost (CPU(8-way), chassis, blade, etc)

128G~2T
Replace Chassis, Add new models (CPU, memory, etc)
New CPU platform to choose(E7 V3 will release at Q4 2014 or Q1
2015)
there is no guarantee subsequent upgrades Maintenance
4T~6T
upgrade
Fujitsu 2800E:
 High initail cost (4*CPU(8-way), chassis, blade, etc)
 Lower performance(4*CPU(8-way), lose two QPI lines,30% drop)
45
 New CPU platform to choose(E7 V3 will release at Q4 2014 or
Q1 2015)
Q&A-3
1. Why performance will be lower from using 4 CPU in 8socket architecture

Q&A-5
1. Why new version CPU is popular?

There are 50%~100% performance improvement from new version to old version. So do you want to buy
the old one when new version is released?
