Mission of the Triune God
“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:21

We participate in the action of the Triune God in the world – we invite
people to salvation through Christ.

Changes in the proportional numbers of Christians in
each continent
In the 2010s, about 1/3 of all Christians live in the northern hemisphere, i.e., in
Europe and North America, and 2/3 in the southern hemisphere, i.e., Africa, Asia,
Oceania, and Latin America. The changes in the proportional numbers of Lutherans
follow the general trends. Mission is from everywhere to everywhere.

Mission of the Church
Mission has been given to the Church. Mission means sharing the Gospel in
words and deeds. Local parishes implement their mission together with the
mission organizations of the Church and FinnChurchAid.

Church Law, Chapter 4
• 1 §. Duties of a parish. In order to implement
the mission of the Church, a parish arranges
services, conducts baptisms and eucharists
and other pastoral acts, implements Christian
education and teaching, counseling, diakonia
and mission, as well as other aspects of
proclamation and service, based on the
Christian message.

Church Statutes, Chapter 4
• 4 §. A parish and its members will promote
the mission, the purpose of which is to share
the Gospel among those who are not
Christians. These actions are specified in the
guiding principles for the mission approved by
the church council or the parish council.

Office for Global Mission and Mission Organizations
The Office for Global Mission, as part of the Department for International
Relations (OGM; www.evl.fi/kkh/kuo/klk), develops, coordinates, and
guides the mission of the Church together with its parishes, dioceses, and
mission
mission organizations.
The Synod of the Church has
admitted seven organizations as
mission organizations of the
Church. They differ in structure,
size, and history.
